Ana Ivanovic Wins a Nervous 1st Match in this year’s French Open
Both Ana Ivanovic and Sofia Arvidsson admitted at the end of this first round match that they were feeling quite nervous. Roland Garros is a huge Grand Slam so I don’t doubt that the 1st round could be very nerve-racking.
Ana did prevail, 6-2, 7-5, but it didn’t really look straight forward at any time during this exciting match. There was a point in the 1st set where Ivanovic seemed more frustrated then I’ve seen her lately, but she pulled herself together and managed to end the match in 2 sets.
This was again one of those occasions that Ana Ivanovic could not be coached by her adidas coach Sven Groeneveld. Sofia Arvidsson wears adidas Competition, and Ana wears Edge by adidas. Since Sven is contracted to coach adidas wearing players he is not allowed to coach if two ‘adidas women’ are playing a match.
Ana’s compatriot, Novak Djokovic, also had a bit of a scare (at one point bouncing the ball over 24 times before he served), but then went on to win the match against Denis Gremelmayr, 4-6. 6-3 7-5.
The women’s tennis apparel I’m showing here is part of the adidas Competition range which Arvidsson wears, along with many other top WTA professional tennis players. This was the tennis clothes choice of Justine Henin. I’m really going to miss her tennis as well as Justine’s excellent choice in tennis outfits.
